LOCATION: | Freshwater Surf Lifesaving Club, Freshwater, NSW |
DISTANCE: | 1.5km |
The Barney Mullins Swim Classic is a 1.5km open water swim named after Life Member and Freshwater swim legend George ‘ Barney’ Mullins.
Up until 2007, the race was restricted to Freshwater Surf Lifesaving Club members. Barney passed away in October 1995 and his son George travels from Queensland each year to attend race day.
The ocean swim starts and finishes at the northern end of Freshwater Beach.
The 2016 event sees the introduction of a 'Mates Wave' - allowing friends or family to swim together regardless of age category. A great way to help each other through the swim, or for experienced swimmers to help novices who are new to ocean swimming.
