YMCA Women & Girls Fun Run/Walk

The YMCA of Canberra Women and Girls’ 5km Fun Run will be the 30th running of this iconic event on Sunday 6 March 2016 at 9am at Stage 88, Commonwealth Park. To celebrate we are including a fancy dress prize this year, with the theme 'Heroes'. Since 2010 the event has raised money for OvCan, a small local group of volunteers, which aims to raise awareness of ovarian cancer within the broader community, support women with the disease, and educate health professionals as to the diagnosis and best treatment path for this insidious cancer. The event was started in 1987 by Jon Stanhope (who was then a public servant) as a way to encourage women and girls to participate in running. It has been held every year since then, and we even have two women who have run all 29 so far and are aiming to run again this year.
