Annabel Luxford and David Mainwaring won the 2015 Ironman 70.3 Western Sydney triathlon at the Penrith International Regatta Centre.

Displaying a superior level of strength than her rivals throughout the bike leg, Luxford built a lead after exiting the swim with Caroline Steffen and Gina Crawford just shy of 28 minutes. Putting down a 2:14:56 bike leg, more than five minutes quicker than Steffen, Luxford left T2 and set about a completing a solid run that saw her cross the line with a comfortable five minute buffer to Steffen.

In the men’s race, Mainwaring exited the swim well off the pace, around 90 seconds down on the likes of slick swimming talent including Casey Munro, Jake Montgomery and Nick Kastelein. Montgomery and Munro put time into the field during the 90km cycle leg but it was Mainwaring’s blistering run leg that rose to the top, running 1:12:40 for the half marathon and taking victory ahead of a strong field including Tim Van Berkel, who finished in fourth place.
