Known as the Red Bull Neptune Steps, Glasgow will host this unique open water swimming event on April 9.

Up to 200 entrants will tackle what could be called an ‘uphill swimming course’. It’s like a cross between open water swimming and obstacle racing.

Based in a canal system, the course consists of a 420 metre swim through icy water before entrants have to clamber over 18 metres of eight canal lock gates.

Finding a location to train specifically for such an event could be challenging for Aussie swimmers, but this looks like a pretty special event to be a part of.

The event was trialled in 2015 but is all set to attract a larger field this April.
