DATE: 24 Jan 2016
TYPE: Cycling
LOCATION: Bright, VIC
DISTANCE: Various distances up to 320km
The Audax Alpine Classic is a one day mass-participation cycling event with distances ranging from 60km up to 320km, covering some of Australia's highest roads through the Victorian High Country. Labelled as the longest, toughest, single day Alpine road ride in Australia. Classed as an extremely hard ride, participants in the longer events will travel over four of the “7 Peaks” in one day! Initially introduced in 2015, the route has been altered for 2016, with the ride going up Mount Buffalo first, before returning to Bright and following the ACE 250 course. The 320km event is only for cyclists who are experienced and prepared, since there are no opportunities to quit along the route. Interested cyclists should check the event website for qualifying criteria which may apply for the longer distance routes.
