Heysen Trail Ultra
About this event
The Heysen Trail Ultra is one of South Australia's most beloved trail running events, taking place from 6:00am on Saturday 24 October 2026, along the iconic Heysen Trail from Rocky Creek (Kuitpo) to Victor Harbor.
Born in 2011 and a proud part of the SA Five 50, this is a true staple of the Australian ultra calendar – spanning rolling paddocks, pine forests, remote beaches, dairy country and legendary single-track climbs across a spectacular and wildly diverse stretch of SA landscape.
Distances range from a Kids 2km through to a 100 Miler, with staggered start times across Saturday and Sunday:
Saturday 24 October
115km: 6:00am start | +2,481m / -2,838m
70km: 10:00am start | +1,668m / -1,897m

For runners chasing a bigger challenge, multi-day combinations are available – stacking a Saturday distance with the Deep Creek 53km on Sunday to earn special buckles and a place in Heysen history. The ultimate combination: pair the 115km with Ultra Adelaide's 100 Miler across a calendar year to claim the coveted AVH (Adelaide to Victor Harbor) Medallion, covering every step of trail from the Adelaide CBD to Victor Harbor – over 270km in total.
The GPX file loaded on the Gaia Maps app is mandatory for all distances. The event is plastic-free – bring your own water vessel.
