L’Étape Australia follows in the footsteps of L’Étape du Tour (French for "a stage of the tour"), a mountainous stage of the Tour de France opened to amateur riders who rode the same course as the professionals and experienced what it is like to ride in Le Tour.
Riders on both the Race and the Ride will start and finish in Jindabyne.
L’Étape Australia offers two levels of participation, both on fully closed roads under professional race conditions and each featuring the King of the Mountain and Sprint sections. Adhering to the look, feel and delivery levels of the Tour de France, L’Étape Australia will bring the Tour de France to the Snowy Mountains of New South Wales.
The Race will take riders from Jindabyne to Rocky Plains, Berridale, the King of the Mountain sections at Col de Beloka and Col de Kosciuszko, descending back to Jindabyne. The Race route is longer this year at 170km with a 3,000m height gain, with the new, long decent. The Race will have four Food Zones and two Energy Zones.
