Tim Van Berkel reigned supreme at Ironman Cairns today, taking first place in 8:15:02, four minutes clear of David Dellow in 8:19:12 and former Ironman World Champ Pete Jacobs a further nine minutes in arrears. The 2015 Ironman Cairns champion, Luke McKenzie finished in sixth place after leading earlier in the day.

Jodie Swallow hung onto the win after building up a lead of around twenty minutes with a super strong swim and bike performance. Linsey Corbin ate into Swallow’s lead during the run, but Swallow hung tough to cross the line before collapsing, metering her effort to perfection. Sarah Crowley took the final place on the podium in 9:19:55.

Among the age-group performances were some terrific efforts including South Africa’s Barry Oelofsen (South Africa) who was tenth fastest overall in 8:55:23 with a slick 3:11 run to finish. Of the ladies, Chino Nishimura (China) crossed the line in 10:15:37, fast enough for sixth overall.
