L'Étape Australia is an amateur cycling event run under professional conditions and run by Le Tour de France organisers. The first L'Étape Australia will be held on December 3rd, 2016.

What is L'Étape?

The original L'Étape du Tour is a mass-participation, amateur cycling event - also known as a cyclosportive, cyclosportif or Gran Fondo.

L'Étape du Tour started in 1993, providing amateur cyclists with an opportunity to ride a single stage of the Tour de France, following the same route as the professionals, under similar conditions.

Each year L'Étape du Tour attracts around 15,000 cyclists, some of whom travel from all around the globe to take part.

What is L'Étape Australia?

On December 3rd 2016, organisers of Le Tour de France will bring L'Étape Australia to life in the Snowy Mountains of New South Wales.

A 160km course (yet to be finalised) will see amateur cyclists battle it out for glory - but they’ll want to be prepared because there’s more than 3000m of climbing involved. The course will even feature King of the Mountain and Sprint sections.

A shorter 130km course with significantly less climbing will also be available - without the competitive aspect of the premier event.
