She is best known for her extraordinary achievements in open-water swimming, particularly her historic swim from Cuba to Florida without a shark cage. This swim, which took place in September 2013 when Nyad was 64 years old, made her an international sensation and earned her a place in the record books.
Following her inspirational swimming efforts, Nyad was a contestant on the 18th season of Dancing with the Stars (2014) in the US.
